🎣 Fishing Reports & Conditions
- Saltery Cove sockeye — NEW: Emergency Order reduced the daily limit from 5 to 2 fish due to exceptionally low water; the run is still projected to make its escapement goal.
- Pink salmon — Building strongly in the Russian, Salonie & Buskin Rivers, with good pushes of fish coming in on every tide. Schooling pinks are visible cruising around road-system bays.
- Dolly Varden — Excellent fishing island-wide, with reports of very large fish.
- Saltwater — Halibut good around Buoys 3 & 4 and Long Island; lingcod “hot,” even showing up in the channels around town; silvers picking up at the Fingers and between Woody & Long Island.
- Closures — Karluk & Ayakulik rivers remain closed to king salmon; king salmon bag limit is 1/day island-wide through Sept 15.

🐻 Bear Viewing
- Frazer Lake fish ladder — Remains prime through Aug 28. The strong even-year pink salmon run is keeping bear activity high as fish stack up below the ladder.
- Getting there — Book a floatplane charter through Kingfisher Aviation or Sea Hawk Air from Kodiak.

- Aug 14–16: The World in port — Kodiak’s first-ever 3-day cruise layover! The World, described as the largest private residential yacht at sea, brings 285 passengers to explore downtown all weekend.

- Coho (silver salmon) — August is peak season, with aggressive strikes and acrobatic fights on fly or spin gear.
- Whale watching — Fin, minke & humpback whales active through November.
- Kodiak Farmers Market — Saturdays 10am–2pm, lawn across from Mission Beach at Kodiak Baptist Mission.
